The Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA) has released comprehensive updated guidelines for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) in Papua New Guinea's mining sector. The new guidelines, effective from January 2026, introduce strengthened requirements for geochemical characterisation of waste materials, enhanced water quality monitoring protocols, and more rigorous stakeholder engagement processes.
